What company certifications are there and what are the differences?
The established certification systems for the sustainable operation of buildings include, in particular:
- DGNB (German Sustainable Building Council),
- LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and
BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method).
While DGNB is primarily used in the DACH region, LEED and BREEAM are internationally recognised certification systems. All systems pursue the goal of sustainable, efficient and future-proof building operations, but differ in their assessment focus, methodology and regional alignment. Which certification system is most suitable depends on the scope, asset class, costs and strategic sustainability goals, among other things.
