VELBERT-NEVIGES

Comprehensive school Waldschlösschen

Completed in 2025, the comprehensive school for the city of Velbert offers a modern learning environment for around 1,300 pupils. The school building is complemented by a spacious triple sports hall. Photovoltaic systems on the roofs, an extensively greened roof garden and partial façade greening underline the sustainable character of the project. Inside, wooden surfaces and a terrazzo-like floor create a connection to the natural surroundings of the forest. The individual clusters each consist of classrooms, a differentiation room and a central marketplace.

Holistic project management using lean methods

The new building, covering an area of around 21,000 m², was constructed using lean methods. A basic scheduling, takt plan, site control center, agile scheduling and lean rule communication were used in a targeted manner. The basic scheduling set the overall time frame and provided direction for the project. The takt plan divided the construction processes into clearly structured cycle zones and work packages so that the individual trades could work in perfect coordination with one another. During the lean rule communication, conducted on a daily and weekly basis, the construction site control centre with attendance list, open issues list, ready status check and cycle plan enabled transparent and collaborative coordination of all parties involved. The use of these Lean methods ensured a continuous exchange of information and a quick response to challenges, which were also dealt with at times using agile scheduling. In retrospect, it can be said that the Lean methods used made a significant contribution to the efficient and timely completion of the comprehensive school.
